Service Accounts for SharePoint 2013

How many Service Accounts do you probably need?

There's always questions around how many service accounts you would need for your server farm.

I always go for the following:

  • SPAdmin
  • SPFarm
  • SPServices
  • SPSearch
  • SPCrawl
  • SPPool
  • SPUPS
The roles of these accounts are:

  • SPAdmin
This is the setup account for installing SharePoint 2013. I would recommend making this a "Sysadmin" on the SQL server too. However, if your DBA says no to this, then DBCreator and being a DBOwner of the model database is enough. If you have any errors when installing SharePoint, these will most likely result to not having the relevant access in SQL. So best to ask your DBA for a screen shot.
